Broadband Services in India

July 2nd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in General Talks, Internet Talks, Personal Talks

India Broadband Well its not easy to get a good broadband connection, its very easy though to get a bad internet service provider.

I have used almost every ISP in my area. My first ISP was vsnl then mtnl .. well it was dialup then.

My Broadband journey started off with Iqara Broadband now termed You Telecom.. it sucked then it sucks even better now. Regular downtime, irregular bandwidth tracking and high charges what You Telecom promises to offer you.

Then comes Sify Broadband, sify never ever was down for me, their support was also good. What really pissed me off was my cable operator, as you know these guys borrow power supply from people using their connection, if A switches off that switch, yes you are right the whole area goes down and then frequent hub failures, switch failure, cable break is what my cable operator proudly offered me.

Finally I get a Tata broadband connection, IT truly ROCKS. Amazing speed, Zero downtime and very good support. Only one bad thing.. aah we @ mumbai have a major load sharing issue due to which lights used to go off 1.5hrs in the morning and 1.5 in the afternoon, More »

Sitelinks Authority Phobia

June 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Google Talks, Internet Talks, Web Talks

Sitelink & Authority Wow man! I have some extra links showing up for my website when searched in google. Woho!! - Relax man those are Sitelinks!

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO!…. I am a Authory Website. - Relax baby webmaster, before you goto cloud nine, read what I have got in store for you. :)

Authority sites and sitelinks aren’t two terms that go together. Once upon a time there were very few sites that had sitelinks hence webmasters termed them Authority Sites.

And it was right to terms them authority sites as they were sites that got traffic, had immense popularity, were important websites.

Siteslinks are links shown in search which google feels that maybe important for a surfer coz those links get more traffic, have more backlinks, maybe searched more or popular.

Foreg: Search google for IBM, Microsoft, Apple.

The above search should give you an idea why google awards sitelinks to websites.

Today mfa, crap, useless websites also get sitelinks. So probably its time you change you definition of Authority Sites.

Sites having sitelinks are no way authority, its only a way found by webmaster to boost their ego even further. :)

Here is what google has to say about it:

Google’s
Webmaster Central Blog
offers

Information about Sitelinks
:

“You may have noticed that some search results include a set of links
below them to pages within the site. We’ve just updated our help center with

information on how we generate these links
, called Sitelinks,
and why we show them.

Our process for generating Sitelinks is completely automated. We show
them when we think they’ll be most useful to searchers, saving them time from
hunting through web pages to find the information they are looking for. Over
time, we may look for ways to incorporate input from webmasters too.”

Google’s Webmaster Help Center
offers their explanation about sitelinks:

How does Google compile the list of links shown below some search results?
